Unless you are more disconnected from society than the Amish community, you will know that there are dozens of ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests going on globally. But some aspects of these protests go completely undocumented, even though they depict small, but much-appreciated acts of kindness during this time. There have been posts showing people handing out free water, food, hand sanitizer and masks, attempting to keep people as safe as possible during the protests. These may seem like very small things to do, but it speaks volumes to the kind of unity that has been forged over the month.
Moreover, after protests, there have been community-wide clean-ups which have not been shown in the media, but truly show the unity that communities have by coming together and then cleaning up the aftermath. These protests clearly symbolise something much bigger than ourselves and are crucial to defending human rights, but the small, often unnoticed acts of kindness represent this idea of unity too. Among the statue toppling, violence, and chaos, it would do us all good to recognise the smaller acts of solidarity too.
